WELCOME TO CLOSED-DOOR VING TSUN KUNG FU
赫 特 福 德 郡 的 適 用 性 真 功 夫
Our evolving and open minded study to the art of Ving Tsun
(To develop or achieve gradually evolve a style of one's own)
(To develop or achieve gradually evolve a style of one's own)
We are a small friendly non-political, ego free Martial Arts Club.
We are based in Harpenden on the borders of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire coached by Sifu Tim Stanbridge.
We specialize in offering private One 2 One tuition in Ving Tsun Kung Fu.
Our objective is to teach Good Ving Tsun Kung Fu.
In a relaxed and accessible manner.
Where emphasis is placed on good technique.
Grounding and structure.
Plus personal development.
Wing Chun is much more than a system of fighting.
It is a way of gaining deep peace and relaxation.
Developing greater focus and Mindfulness.
Tim first started training in Ving Tsun in 1985.
He then had a break from Ving Tsun due to family and work commitments.
In 2002 Tim started back on his Ving Tsun journey.
I have made steady progress, getting a deeper understanding in my Ving Tsun.
Attending different Ving Tsun seminars all over the country to expand my knowledge.
I achieved my assistant Instructor's Certificate in 2008 and my Instructor's Certificate (Sifu) in 2011.
I now also train with a handful of my close friends within our Ving Tsun (family) to carry on my future development and research.
So in March 2010 I started my next chapter in my Ving Tsun journey and opened up my own group (Hertfordshire Ving Tsun).
While now teaching I am also continuing my own training and development and understanding in the Ving Tsun system.
Sifu Tim Stanbridge teaches the three empty hand forms also the Muk Yan Jong and Luk Dim Boon Kwan.
Obviously to learn the entire system is a long term commitment.
Our core training concepts and principles come from Ip Man Ving Tsun Lineage.
But there are slight difference in our lineage.
The stance has an 50/50 weight distribution the toes are pointed straight forward in our neutral stance.
We also drive from the back leg instead of stepping with the front leg.
We also focus on more about controlling the opponents centre ie (balance) then attack.
Using the internal concepts applied to our Ving Tsun.
This is also my personal expression of the Ving Tsun system.
This group is open to all lineages of the Ving Tsun community there are no ego's here.
We discuss, listen, and we keep an open minded approach to our training.
If you happen to be nearby please come and visit us.
Share you thoughts and ideas lets learn from each other ie friendly chi-sau session, drills etc.
I am a guide more than a teacher. I am not an expert, master, or champion.
I only strive to be a good Martial Artist.
I am still just a student of Ving Tsun myself.
Students remember don't be a copy of your instructor be original.
Explore your Ving Tsun let it be yours

Why Ving Tsun?
Ving Tsun is a close range, effective martial arts system.
That's emphasis is on touch and technique rather than strength or power.
Ving Tsun is a relatively easy to learn method of close quarters combat.
The style of Ving Tsun focuses upon simplicity and relaxation.
The underlying philosophy preaches the economy of motion and directness of action.
There are few, if any, large and elaborate "moves" in Ving Tsun.
The idea is to attack the attack, effectively defend oneself and to do so with quick strikes intended to end the altercation.
Ving Tsun original system was based on 3 empty hand forms:
1st Form (Siu Lim Tao) The small idea form.
2nd Form (Chum Kiu)The turning, or bridging the gap form.
3rd Form (Bil Jee) Thrusting fingers (the emergency form).
Ving Tsun also included "wooden dummy" training forms, and exercises based on sensitivity and timing of the arms called
Chi sau "sticky hand" training.
And other drills to develop close range kicking techniques and other kung fu self defense skills.
Chi Sao'which translates as double sticking hands.
Because Ving Tsun is practiced at such point blank range, sparring can be dangerous.
Chi sao is practiced in the Ving Tsun system to develop sensitivity and reflexes and later leads to sparring.
Essentially teaches you how to fight, adapt to a situation and how take control of an opponent.
Chi sao develops extreme sensitivity in the forearms.
